SMARTExpertise offers financial support to innovative collaboration projects that require a range of expertise to solve industry problems.

The aim of the call is to support collaborative projects, between industry and Welsh research organisations, which address strategic industrial technical challenge/s with a clear focus on commercialisation and exploitation of new products, processes or services and growth in capacity and capability in key areas of Smart Specialisation.

There are no restrictions on size or location of industrial partners, however, the project must demonstration it is an effective collaboration and will deliver positive Welsh economic impacts.

Funding will support 100% of the research organisations eligible project costs which shall equate to a maximum of 50% of the total eligible project costs. The industrial partners shall provide the remaining balance of the total eligible projects costs. The funding will be awarded to the research organisation.

Duration of projects: up to 36 months

Contract research and provision of research services are not eligible.

Efficiency through technology fund

We invite all Welsh Health Boards, Trusts, hosted services and local authority delivered health and care services to apply.

Following the success of our 2015-18 tranche of funding, we are happy to announce an open call for further funding available for 2017-20.

The fund supports projects which use innovative technology to improve the efficiency of healthcare services.

We select and prioritise projects  against weighted criteria.

The fund supports two types of project:

  • Rapid Evaluation Projects  – to test the real world impact of new products and services on efficiency and effectiveness. These projects must complete within nine months, with a funding requirement of £50k to £200k
  • Scale-up Projects – to accelerate the adoption of products and services which demonstrate significant improvements in efficiency and effectiveness, to national or regional level. These projects can run for up to three years with a minimum funding requirement of £200k.

The deadline for applications is 30 November 2016.
